    Trade Talk: Guns for Healthcare

    2010 - 07.15

First thing first, we want a single payer healthcare system in our nation. You want to openly carry any kind of weapon you can assume. I reckon you’re foolish and only inviting danger into your life and you reckon I’m trying to kill your grandma with death panels. So, why don’t we trade.

I will support the following gun laws being made into federal law that can not be changed unless violent gun crimes rise by 10% in any 10 year period. Whether that happens, we will have to revisit this agreement but until then I will support your right to:

Openly carry any firearm that you own legally.

Buy any firearm legally without a waiting period.

The only restrictions I would apply are as follows:

2% sales tax on all gun or ammo buys, tax pays for commercials approximately gun safety to be broadcast on major networks and local cable satellite tv stations. Commercials will be basic gun safety, nothing more.

You must carry a valid license any time you are carrying a weapon. Like in Arizona, anyone deemed “reasonably suspicious” by the authorities would be required to prove that they have a license to carry a weapon.

Concealed carrying is banned, I want to see who has a gun so I can avoid you.

Safety classes are required before you can obtain a license.

Any felony for any violent or drug related crime will prevent you from owning a gun.

Because I’m giving up my safety I need to know that whether I get shot by you, I can go to a hospital and it not make me bankrupt. Single payer healthcare is the one thing we need in this country more than anything else right now. I’ll make a few small concessions, too, since I’m asking that there be restrictions on the guns.

    I’ll concede:

There will be no law preventing private medical practices. Whether a doctor wants to treat you, he/she may, for any price she/he feels appropriate. Call it a private option. You will not need to do anything to enact the option. Whether you find you are sick, you can choose a public or private practice, which ever you feel meets your needs.

We’ll have a 2% sales tax on unhealthy foods(including alcohol and tobacco products) and supply tax cuts for vegetable and fruit buys. This tax will assist ease the cost of healthcare on citizens and encourage corporations to stock healthy foods for snacks rather than junk foods.

So what do you say? Deal?
