Nine Tips to a Healthy Food Plan

    2010 - 08.19

Some of us have to work at being a healthy weight. There are too many crash diets and get slender rapid scams out there, and they are being literally bought into way too often. There is no rapid fix when it comes to being healthy. It takes diligence and lifestyle changes. But, those changes do not have to be painful. Here are nine tips to a healthy food plot:

    Keep Hydrated The Right Way

Fluids take up room in the stomach, causing you to eat less, but still feel convinced and full. The key is to drink the right fluids. Sugary and fatty drinks are out of the question. Those types of fluids defeat the purpose. Water is always best. Beware of flavored waters though. They often rival sodas in sugar content. See an article here approximately the unfaithful advertisment of Vitaminwater as a healthy drink. Fair add fresh squeezed lemon, lime, raspberry, strawberry, kiwi, blueberry, etc.. to your water whether you don’t like plain ancient drinking water.  Limit yourself to one beverage of choice a day. My vice is Coca-Cola. So, I only have one a day.

Dispose with the Junk Food and Processed Food

Thinking you can buy it and moderate consumption is a myth for maximum people. Whether it is there, maximum of us will eat it. Fair take a see here at a list of worst frozen foods by AOL. Note the trans stout, saturated stout, sodium, cholesterol, sugar, and salt contents of some of the products. Much of the frozen food section is an obesity mill. You might reckon the junk food would be something difficult to give up, but once you start replacing greasy potato chips with something like banana chips, you’d be surprised at how simple it is to give up.

    Memorize Cooking Skills

Learning how to cook can assist you avoid the processed foods and junk food. Doing so can too assist give you the inspiration and motivation to adhere with your lifestyle alter. You might fair find that cooking your own nutritious meal is fun, and can give you a sense of pride and security. You know what the food is, where it came from, and how it was prepared! Cooking your own foods too provides you with an opportunity to convert many bland foods into something palatable. Attempt incorporating spices, seasonings, and herbs to the traditionally bland.  Here is a brilliant online cooking lesson.

    Don’t Skip Breakfast

The adage- breakfast is the maximum vital meal of the day is very right. Breakfast serves as leap-start for your metabolism that has been hibernating as you slept. Make certain you get one serving of fruit, one serving of lean protein, and one serving of vegetable to give the body the fuel it needs to get you through the day.

    Small Frequent Meals

Ideally, you should eat small highly nutritious food parts every 2 to 3 hours. First of all, your body is assured that it will get regular supply of nourishing food sources whether you consistently eat on schedule. When you skip meals and wait long intervals between meals, the body may hoard nutrients in dread of starvation. Secondly, you will be less likely to go on an eating spree because you are overly hungry at meal times.

Pasta and White Bread Aren’t Your Friends

Pasta and white bread have a tall sugar content. They are digested quickly and easily to supply an influx of instant energy. But, the body does not necessarily need all that energy at the time. So, the body reverts to storing the substance as stout. On the other hand, entire-grain sources are not as quickly or easily broken down. In result, the entire-grains go through the body slow and regular to supply an all day supply of energy.

    Freebie

While you want to make your food part of your permanent lifestyle, you can too not deny all vices…all the time; doing so will fair spur a binge. It is okay to occasionally eat something that you delight in, but that is not necessarily “excellent for you.” Fair limit your release day to 2-4 times a month and do not overeat your vice. In other words, have a cup of ice cream once a week, but don’t eat a gallon of ice cream at a time.

    Exercise

Whether you want to preserve a healthy weight and body, you must incorporate exercise into your lifestyle. Fair thirty minutes a day is suffice when you adhere to a healthy diet. There is no excuse for inactivity. I am homebound with a handicapped child, but I still manage to get aerobic exercise. I walk and jog in place with hand weights during my daughters’ favorite soap opera. Fascinatingly, studies have shown that dogs can be a brilliant way to profit that 30 minutes of exercise. Dogs need walking, and guess who has to walk the dog?

    Healthy Is As Healthy Sees

Whether you see friends and relatives eating junk and lazing around, then you are more likely to do the same. The key to your success will be making your nutritional and physical activity agenda clear to those around you. You might consider asking them not to eat certain trigger food around you. Find a excellent support group of like minded people that share your eating habits.

In-flight Food a Possible Health Risk

    2010 - 08.17

The German Fraunhofer Institute has conducted a study instigated by airline Deutsche Lufthansa. They tried food on a group of people first at normal air pressure and later in an artificial low pressure as experienced during air flight.

The participants were questioned to rate the taste of their food under normal conditions first; served the precisely same food under low pressure many participants found it tasteless. It showed that human taste insight was impaired at lower air pressure.

According to the Fraunhofer Institute, this impairment is directly linked to lowered taste receptor sensibility. Receptor sensibility decreases with the reduction of oxygen in the blood. The low air pressure in turn provokes hypoxia (lack of oxygen in the blood) which in turn affects receptor sensibility.

The tests showed that the lowered sensibility of taste receptors affected the insight of salt, sugar, and herbs. The insight of acids on the other hand was not affected. As a result of lowered oxygen availability in the taste receptors, in-flight food was perceived as tasteless and bland.

Airlines have been aware of the practical side of the phenomenon for years. As a consequence, in-flight food is served over-salted and over-sugared. While this is mostly no problem for the occasional flyer, regular flyers and people with special dietary needs should be made aware of the fact.

Airlines too choose their drinks differently. They choose overly heavy and earthy wines, for instance, to counteract the loss of taste. Highly sugared drinks are too more in demand in-flight than on ground level.

The airlines quote as an example for the alter of taste insight the tall demand for tomato juice. In the Fraunhofer Institute’s study, tomato juice was perceived by many participants as bland and tasteless in ground level conditions, while they found it tasty in simulated lower air pressure.

The findings of the Fraunhofer Institute may assist you on your holiday trips as well. As decreasing air pressure is not only experienced in-flight but too during tall altitude holidays in the mountains. The phenomenon is particularly noticeable at the many well known skiing resorts around the world where restaurants are available at the highest points or even on peaks.

When holidaying in tall altitudes, chances are that your food is too served with higher salt and sugar levels. Whether you are a wine lover, you might have wondered why the wines you liked at residence didn’t taste any excellent while on holiday. As a consequence, you might want to go for a heavier wine while up in the mountains. You might too like tomato juice there, even whether you see at it with disdain at residence.

    Farmer’s Markets and Healthy Food

    2010 - 07.10

    Farmer’s Markets and Healthy Food

A Farmer’s Market is very likely approach you. Whether you don’t know where, call your Chamber of Commerce or better yet, see in your phone book. Farmer’s Markets are popping up everywhere so you are certain to find one within convenient driving distance. Collect your cooler, several bags and lots of small bills and pocket alter. Now you are all set for a trip to the Farmer’s Market. Take the kids along and make it a family outing. Make it a learning experience by teaching them all approximately fresh healthy fruits and vegetables. You could too halt by your community library and pick up a book with recipes for preparing all your Farmer’s Market buys.

When you first get there, stroll around to get your bearings and see at the produce. You can generally taste before you buy, so you won’t go residence with bitter peaches or sour grapes. Everything looks and tastes so excellent that it will be all too simple to buy too many fruits and vegetables on your first visit. Don’t do that. Buy what you know your family will eat. Don’t be wasteful, but whether you do choose to buy in bulk for canning, you can nearly always strike up a deal and get a genuine bargain.

Nearly any food you eat will be available and it will be fresher and sometimes cheaper. Many people shop nearly entirely at a Farmer’s Market. Locally grown is always best. It’s freshest and you know more approximately it. Produce loses it’s flavor as it gets further from it’s source. Many of our imported foods have been sprayed with insecticides that have been banned in the U.S. and Canada.

Now, lets get to the question of biological. Biological produce is always available at a Farmer’s Market, and some Markets are biological only. Biological will cost you silent a bit more, but is it worth it? It comes down to what you prefer. Food experts disagree. Whether you wash and peel everything before it’s eaten it should be OK. But even approved pesticides can have a cumulative effect and farmers who use pesticides do have a higher rate of cancer. Meat and fowl raised on antibiotics is perilous and should be avoided. So it’s really all up to you and what you reckon and can afford.

Juicy Red Apples to Treat Food Allergy?

    2010 - 06.27

Food allergies are a common problem – but not all food allergies are right allergies. What appears to be a food allergy may really be a food intolerance. A right food allergy involves the immune system, while food intolerances do not. It’s vital to get an accurate diagnosis from a doctor before trying to treat a food allergy – to make certain it’s really an allergy.

The only excellent way to treat food allergy is to stay absent from foods that cause an allergic response. This can be a challenge for some people – particularly those who are allergic to many foods. Now a modern study shows there could be hope in the battle against food allergies – in the form of apple polyphenols.

In a study published in Clinical and Experimental Allergy, mice allergic to a certain protein found in egg whites ate an extract that contained apple polyphenols prior to eating the egg protein. Their immune response to the egg white protein was measured after getting the apple polyphenols. The results? The apple polyphenols suppressed the allergic immune reaction the mice would normally have had after being exposed to the protein.

This isn’t the first study to exhibit that apple polyphenols play a role in food allergies. A 2005 study showed that the polyphenols in unripe apples prevented the development of food allergies in mice. Apple polyphenols too reduce the symptoms of atopic dermatitis in humans – an inflammatory sickness that’s more common in people with allergies.

No one knows precisely how apple polyphenols assist to prevent allergies. Some theories are they prevent the release of histamine – a chemical produced by the body that causes many of the symptoms of an allergic reaction – or they bind to the allergen and alter its structure sufficient so that it no longer elicits an immune response.

Unfortunately, maximum studies looking at apple polyphenols to treat allergy have been carried out in mice, not humans. So, it’s still too early to recommend apple polyphenol supplements for food allergy sufferers. It’s unlikely that maximum people would get allergy relief by simply eating apples since larger polyphenols quantities would be needed. On the other hand, apples offer some beautiful incredible health benefits. Make them a part of your diet – whether you’re allergic or not.

Diagnosing Food Allergies May Get Easier

    2010 - 05.28

Diagnosing food allergies is not as foolproof as it should be. Food allergies are less frequent than maximum people reckon – only approximately one in twenty people have a right food allergy. Unfortunately, standard testing for food allergy leads to a meaningful number of unfaithful positive tests – where the test suggests a food allergy exists when it doesn’t.

The Problem with Allergy Skin Tests

Why are tests for food allergies so misleading? The standard for diagnosing food allergies is allergy skin testing. Skin testing involves injecting a small quantity of a potential allergen underneath a person’s skin. Whether a right food allergy exists, antibodies react with the allergen and cause release of histamine which leads to a visible skin reaction. Another way to diagnose food allergies is to degree the antibodies to a specific antigen in a person’s blood. This, too, can give inaccurate results.

So what’s the solution? A company has developed a modern way to diagnose food allergies that doesn’t involve allergy skin tests. To do this modern form of allergy testing, a sample of blood is drawn and the white blood cells are removed and exposed to the potential food allergen. Whether a person has a food allergy, the white blood cells will produce more of certain types of molecules called cytokines when exposed to the allergen. By looking at the sample of cytokines produced, it can be determined whether an allergy to a specific food exists. This modern method for diagnosing food allergies should be more accurate than traditional allergy skin tests – with fewer unfaithful positives.

    Other Tests for Food Allergy

Until this modern form of testing for food allergy becomes available, allergy skin tests are still the standard, but there are other lower tech ways to check for food allergies and food intolerences – which can too be used when allergy skin testing is inconclusive. One of the best is to do an elimination diet.  This involves eliminating all foods that could be causing the food allergy and gradually adding them back one by one – to see whether they cause symptoms. Since maximum people aren’t allergic to white rice or vegetables, this can be the starting foods – along with lean turkey and chicken. It’s best to do this under the care of an allergist since each allergist has their own unique way of doing an elimination diet.

Testing for Food Allergy: The Foot Line?

Allergy skin tests are often inaccurate and may over diagnose food allergies. Be on the lookout for this modern way of diagnosing food allergies that’s more accurate.

Pesticides on Food Linked to Adhd in Children

    2010 - 05.24

Around 7% of school-aged children are affected by ADHD. In the past, we have seen research evidence linking ADHD to inheritable factors, prenatal alcohol exposure, prenatal tobacco exposure, and childhood exposure to lead.

Now, a modern research study is suggesting a link between exposure to tall levels of pesticides with ADHD in children.  The organophosphate pesticides are widely used in agriculture, and are commonly found on many of the produce we eat everyday- berries, celery, etc..

Tall levels of organophosphates are thought to inhibit acetylcholinesterase, a nervous system enzyme. Moderate levels of organophosphates are thought to affect growth factors and neurotransmitters.

The author of the research cautioned that her findings certainly doesn’t mean that parent’s should not give their children fruits and vegetables, and that the research does not prove that pesticide exposure causes ADHD. But, it does exhibit that pesticides COULD raise the odds for ADHD, and therefore parent’s should take precautions such as buying biological, buying directly from farmers, and washing fruits and vegetables appropriately before eating them. In, other words, attempt to reduce the exposure to pesticides as a safety precaution.

1,100 Children age 8 to 15 were used in the study. The children with higher pesticide levels in their urine were more likely to have ADHD. The effects of children being exposed to pesticides vs. adults may be attributed to the fact that a child is still growing and the quantity of pesticides consumed relative to body weight is greater in children.

It is vital to note that a 2008 Emory University study investigated children that switched their diet to biological fruits and veggies, and their urine levels of pesticide dropped to undetectable levels.

I reckon that the research has a long way to go in really linking ADHD to pesticides. But, the existing evidence is probing sufficient that parent’s should consider using biological products as a precautionary degree.

Into The World of Food: The Chemistry of Food Groups

    2010 - 05.02

There is an ancient saying that say “you are what you eat”. This is right from both a health point-of-view and a scientific point-of-view. Fair as we are made up of chemicals so is the food that we eat. In examining this it is vital to remember that while food is any substance that we may consume, a nutrient although a component of food, is not always a food itself.

Food can be grouped by their composition into lipids (such as oil and stout), carbohydrates (sugars), and protien. They each differ by their structural composition. Lipids are described as a combination of a glycerol and fatty acids. The different structures too determine whether the lipids are water soluble or stout soluble. Carbohydrates such as table sugar (sucrose) have an empirical formula of CH2O. They commonly come from larger molecules such as starch and cellulose. Protiens come from amino acids they contribute to the make-up of an organisms DNA.

While food is a source of enjoyment for many people, there are too many alternative ways to comprehend the things we experience in our everyday lives. It is too excellent to remember that things will always see different on a microscopic scale.

Into The World of Food: Fats and Oils

    2010 - 05.01

Fats an oils which are commonly referred to as lipids are esters of a glycerol and a fatty acid. They may too have groups attached to them that contain hydrocarbon chains with a large, even quantity of carbon atoms. These fats come in many forms which are saturated (all C-C bonds), monounsaturated (only containing one C=C bonds), and polyunsaturated (containing many C=C bonds).

While many are chemically similar they differ in melting point as it is dependent on the length of the hydrocarbon chain, how unsaturated the molecules are and the type of hydrocarbon chin in the molecule (cis- or trans-)

Diagram showing the Difference Between cis- and trans- Fatty Acids

    .

Solid lipids (eg. butter) generally contain saturated hydrocarbons while liquid lipids (eg. vegetable oil) are commonly unsaturated. Often unsaturated lipids react readily with oxygen when in the presence of light. This is why oils are sold in dark or opaque bottles.

Saturated fats/oils are used as they are simpler to cook with and degrade at a slower rate. But, they are less healthy as trans-fats and LDL-cholesterol can build up in the body main to narrow arteries. This may increase an individuals risk for stroke and heart problems.

Obesity in Children: What Fast Food Corporations are Doing to Cause It

    2010 - 04.22

Nobody can deny that rapid food is unhealthy.  Everyone knows that rapid food is tall in calories, fats, and sodium.  But what causes obesity?  When questioned this, maximum people will say “rapid food.”  A diet tall in calories and a lack of physical exercise are what cause a large percentage of the cases of obesity.  Rapid food clarifies the calories, but what approximately the sedentary lifestyle?  Well, believe it or not, rapid food can clarify that as well.  As it turns out, rapid food corporations are a major cause of childhood obesity because they promote unhealthy foods and a sedentary lifestyle for children.

One striking factor of the rapid food corporation’s link to child obesity is the abundance of rapid food restaurants worldwide.  “McDonald’s is the main global foodservice retailer with more than 32,000 local restaurants serving more than 60 million people in 117 countries each day.” (“Our Company”)  I even performed a search on the McDonald’s website to see how many McDonald’s restaurants there are in my area.   According to the search there are at minimum 35 McDonald’s restaurants within a 13-mile radius of my house!  This shows that there are a enormous number of rapid food restaurants in the world, particularly since these numbers are for fair one corporation.  Adding on to the numerical evidence, rapid food restaurants have increased 12.8% in the past 10 years (Entertaining Marketing Letter).  This shows that rapid food corporations are increasing the quantity of restaurants they have in order to increase their profits.  These numbers, although they may not see it, are in fact a large link to rapid food corporations’ causing of obesity in children.  The overwhelming presence of rapid food restaurants means that children see the restaurants more often and that they are more likely to get their parents to halt there and eat.  Too, when children are ancient sufficient, they can go to the restaurants with their friends.  For example, my friends and I ride our bikes to a McDonald’s that is only approximately a two-minute ride from my house.  Whether we don’t feel like having McDonald’s that day, there is a Burger Emperor right next to it.  All in all, the growing number of rapid food restaurants does have an affect on childhood obesity.

In addition to the amounts of restaurants, the food that these rapid food restaurants serve is a considerable factor of childhood obesity.  Many of the foods that are served in rapid food restaurants, besides having tons of calories, are tall in stout, carbohydrates, and sodium.  Fats and carbohydrates contribute greatly to obesity.  “Rapid-food lovers consumed more fats, sugars and carbohydrates and fewer fruits and non-starchy vegetables than youngsters who didn’t eat rapid food” (Holguin).  The foods that these rapid-food lovers eat, namely hamburgers and French fries, are tall in carbohydrates and fats.  For example, the McDonald’s “Small Fries” has, out of 230 calories, 100 from stout.  It too has 29 grams of carbohydrates, which is 10 percent of your recommended daily worth right there.  A hamburger has 520 mg (milligrams) of sodium  (Corporation).  Excessive salt intake can lead to many diseases including hypertension, osteoporosis and cardiac enlargement.  Some people say that McDonald’s (and other rapid food corporations) are adding healthy foods to their menus in order to combat obesity.  While this is right that there are healthy foods being added to menus, there are still flaws in this plot.  The foods added are either for youthful children or are not as healthy as they are claimed to be.  The Apple Dippers and chocolate milk were added mainly for youthful children and many older children and teenagers do not want to eat (or drink) these foods.  In addition, the foods that are made for older consumers are not as healthy as they claim to be.  The Premium Southwest Salad with Crispy Chicken has 430 calories with 180 of them stout calories.  The salad too has 920 mg of sodium, which is 38 percent of your daily recommended worth (Corporation).  Too, as the younger children grow up they will grow out of eating Pleased Meals and will halt eating Apple Dippers and go into eating the unhealthier foods like hamburgers and French fries.  Until rapid food corporations develop healthier food choices for people of all ages, rapid food is still unhealthy and it is a major cause of obesity on children.

Rapid food corporations promote a sedentary lifestyle as well as unhealthy food.  With the addition of play places in many McDonald’s restaurants, it is nearly unimaginable to reckon that rapid food corporations would promote a sedentary lifestyle.  But, there are many subtle things that McDonald’s and other rapid food corporations do to keep kids on their chairs rather than on their feet.  The first thing they do is hand out toys.  In every Pleased Meal or other kid’s meal,  a themed toy is handed out to every child.  The toy, although it is simple and generally does not perform any special function, serves two main purposes.  It keeps the child entertained and having fun.  The other job it does is to keep the child from doing a physical activity.  The small boy or girl, rather than running around and playing tag or other childish games, sits down and plays with the toy while eating their 230-calorie French fries.  This results in less calories burned and consequently, more weight gained.  Along with the subtlety of the toy, there is another hidden method to the corporations’ insanity.  While perusing the McDonald’s main website, I came across a website called ronald.com.  It was a website designed particularly for children ages 4 to 7.  On the website there are sections entitled Memorize, Play and Make.  There are learning activities, games to play, and print-outs to color.  This is fair another way for rapid food corporations to get children to sit around rather than play external.  Kids will sit around on the computer instead of play external, causing yet again less calories burned and more weight gained.  A recent addition to McDonald’s restaurants is video games.  I have been to multiple McDonald’s locations where they have had video recreation consoles for children to play rather than play in the play place.  There are too small tables with Legos for children to sit and play with instead of playing in a play place as well.  All of these additions get children to live a more sedentary lifestyle because they are fair sitting around rather than doing any type of physical activity.

With the rising amounts of rapid food restaurants fitting a worldwide epidemic, it is no amazement that obesity rates are rising as well.  Children are the largest group of victims of this epidemic.  The intake of unhealthy foods and a sedentary lifestyle are the maximum prominent causes of obesity in children.  This essay has only scraped the surface of this argument and there are still many more details that are left uncovered.  It is up to you, the consumer, to memorize the truth approximately these corporations.
