There are so many milk options available these days – dairy, non-dairy, low-stout, stout-release, lactose-release, and, of course, biological. It may feel excellent to say you drink biological milk, but, whether you do, you could conclusion up paying twice as much. With such a difference in price, it’s natural to question whether or not it’s worth it. Is biological milk healthier?
Is Biological Milk Healthier?: Is Biological Milk More Nutritious?
A recent article published in the Journal of Dairy Science compared the nutritional worth of biological milk with conventional milk. Surprisingly, both were equal in terms of nutritional worth with the exception that the biological milk had a slightly different fatty acid profile which wasn’t considered to be meaningful.
Preceding studies have shown that biological milk contains higher quantities of brief-chain omega-3 fatty acids than standard milk, but these fatty acids aren’t present in large sufficient quantities to significantly boost the health benefits of biological milk over standard milk. The best source of omega-3’s is still the long-chain omega-3’s found in fatty fish. All in all, drinking biological milk doesn’t supply any genuine nutritional benefits over conventional milk.
Does Drinking Biological Milk Reduce Exposure to Bovine Growth Hormone?
One of the more common reasons people drink biological milk is to reduce their exposure to bovine growth hormone or BGH. Milk that’s labeled as biological has to come from cows that weren’t treated with BGH – a growth factor that conventional milk producers use to increase milk production. BGH may be converted in the body to a hormone called IGF-1 which experts believe increases the risk of certain types of cancer – particularly breast and prostate. Some experts argue that small, whether any, BGH from conventional milk is absorbed into the bloodstream – and even whether it is, the amounts aren’t meaningful. But, why take the chance? This is still a excellent reason to drink biological milk.
Is Biological Milk Healthier?: What Approximately Antibiotics and Pesticides?
Biological milk has to come from cows that haven’t been treated with antibiotics and the cow must have been fed pesticide-release food. What approximately conventional milk? The Dairy Industry says that they routinely test conventional milk for antibiotics before releasing it to the public and remove any milk that tests positive – so it never enters the food supply.
The Foot Line?
Drinking biological milk doesn’t offer any meaningful nutritional advantages, but it could reduce exposure to BGH – a hormone that’s associated with cancer. Whether you don’t intellect paying a small more, biological milk is still the better option.
